Day 942: Picture Day!

Madison had her first school picture day today. She was pretty excited. She wore a pink tunic shirt and jeans with her favourite pink sparkle hair clips. She was also excited for school because it was library day. They read a book as a class and she did her book selection for the week: A Lalaloopsy book. She ate lunch with her friend Nora, played outside with Marcus and used her canes in the classroom for most of the day.

After school Nana picked her up and they had some downtime at the house and some snacks and then headed to ballet. She loved seeing her friends Evelyn and Sofia and had a great class!

Day 941: Fire Drill!

Madi had her first fire drill at school this morning. She talked about it non stop at the end of the day because she was so interested. She lined up with her class and walked outside and then back in and talked about Fire safety. Her favourite activity in gym class today was bowling and she loved playing Candy Land in aftercare. The letter she worked on today in her language centre was “s”.

After school Madi went to Neurochangers to do some walking. She was tired from school but they did an excellent job trying to keep her engaged so that she could do most of the activity and not need as much assistance.

After a snack and a break, Madi headed to see Jo-Anne. A new exercise they did today was trying to walk between narrow pieces of wood. This helps her develop a narrower walking pattern with more emphasis on the forward motion of the step to avoid the side to side stepping.

Day 940: Back in the pool

Madi and Mommy were at the pool bright and early this morning. Mommy was coaching and Madi had a lesson with Ryan and Patricia. Ryan will continue to focus on learning body awareness, alignment, kicking etc with Madison while Patricia will focus on exercising in the water with water jogging and walking around. Madi used her new water vest for the first time today and it went great!

While Mommy finished up coaching, Madi spent some time with Nana and Papa.

Their afternoon was spent at a shower celebrating baby D’Souza who will be on the way in a few short months.

Madi and Jack then went to Deer Creek for a golf tournament fundraiser for their Buddy Cruz! It was a big success! They can be found on Go Fund Me if you are interested in donating.

Day 939: Party Day!

Madison was thrilled to celebrate her birthday today with so many of her friends. Her party was at an indoor play place that had a little something for everyone. We are so grateful that Madison has so many buddies in her life that make her smile and feel so special. Thanks for a great day!

Day 938: Happy 4th Birthday Madi!

Madison had a blast today! At school they said her name over the announcements, let her pick from the prize bag, gave her a certificate and she had lots of treats with her friends.

After school, Madi went to visit Karly who gave her a special hair treatment to make her hair pink!!!

Madi and Jack were super happy to see each other at the end of the day. He told Madison happy birthday and gave her a card he made.

When Madison got home she opened presents and had some cake. Thank you everyone who sent her messages today.

Day 937: Relapse

Madison and Daddy went to go see Dr. Wong today – Madison’s nephrologist. The last four days her urine dip sticks have been reading very high for protein amount. She has been very tired and not quite herself – lots of sleepless nights. He thinks she has picked up a bug from being at a new school and has relapsed. She needs to go back on a high dose of Meds and then slowly ween off over the next four weeks and then figure out next steps.

After school, Nana & Madi headed to physio with Stephanie. Her teachers said she was very tired at school and she slept in Nana’s car the whole drive to physio, so we weren’t sure how productive the session would be – But when she started working with Stephanie she did great! Lots of walking, doing two handed activities while doing independent standing and blowing noise makers to practice breath control when moving. She is also doing a great job stepping up and down with objects on the floor.

Day 936: Ballet!

Madi had a great day at school. She went to the library for her first visit. She listened to a story and then got to pick out a book to check out. She has a special book bag to keep her library books in and will go once a week to exchange books.

After school, Nana and Madi had some down time at the house and then got ready for ballet! Madi was so excited to start up again and see all her friends who signed up for the same class! We feel so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing dance studio who are so accommodating, flexible and offer inclusive classes for Madi and her friends to participate in.

Hey all you Durham folk! Head on over to Tims for a smile cookie to support Grandview Kids! You can also order them in bulk – Madison will be bringing a few boxes of them on Thursday to school to celebrate her Birthday!

Day 935: School Support

Madi has been receiving excellent support at the school and with the outside professionals from CCAC.

She was super excited for school this morning because it was her first gym class. Her PT from CCAC helped facilitate the class by helping the teacher with some feedback. Madi played basketball and soccer and loved it!

Later in the day, her OT visited the school to make sure her equipment and seating were appropriate.

After school Madi headed to Neurochangers to do some walking and stairs!

It was a great day day!

Day 933 & 934: We Made It!

Madison made it through her first week of JK with flying colours! It was a busy week, full of new routines, so it was nice to have a slow paced weekend with only a few things here and there.

Saturday was all about activities on the couch, crafts, a massage, making banana bread and experimenting with Sea Monkeys!

Sunday morning was an early one for Madison & Jack. Mommy had early practice at the pool so Madison & Jack got to go for a yummy breakfast with Nana & Papa and then went to the Bluffs to visit the ducks!

Madison had her first physio session at the house with Claire today! They worked on lots of dynamic stretching, strengthening activities and working with her SMO’s.

We are rested and ready for week 2 of school!

Day 932: Back at Physio

Madison had a great first week of school. Today she used her canes more, coloured with her new friend Norah and did a writing activity. It was also her first day in the after school program in the YMCA.

After school she went to Physio with Stephanie. She had most of the week off therapy while adjusting to being at school. She was tired but did a great job with Stephanie.
