Madison spent her morning playing around the house and practicing on her new walker with Dada.

After her nap she had a good stretching session on the couch. She decided to get the full spa treatment by lying back, watching Elmo on TV and eating her snacks while Mama worked away on her super tight legs.

Madison ended her night by hanging out with some of her favourite ladies! She wished her Auntie Lauren and Jeff safe travels for their move to Florida.

Day 175: Speech Assessment

Madison visited her new program centre today – Centennial Child Centre for a speech and language assessment. She was assessed 5 months ago at Grandview and passed but Centennial wanted to do their own assessment to establish treatment and goals for September. Madison once again did a great job and is on track so she will not need speech therapy when she starts at Centennial. The therapist said she would check in with Madison’s teachers every few months to make sure she continues to be on track, but has no concerns at this time.

Madison also received a call today from Grandview. She is next on the wait list for a botox assessment.  She is booked for the assessment the first week of September to determine if botox will be an appropriate treatment for her. It’s been a good news kind of day!

Day 174: Fun with Friends!

Madison was back at My Gym today with her friend Charlotte. They chased each other up and down the slide, played in the balls then threw them out into the gym space and popped bubbles at the end of class.

After class the girls went for lunch at a nearby cafe. Charlotte was such a good friend to Madison giving her hugs and sharing her grilled cheese. They play so well and are so cute together.

Day 173: Walker Fixed!

Madison was back at Grandview today to work with Kate and to get her walker fixed. Jen from Motion Specialties dropped in to make some adjustments to the height of Madison’s hip guides and to look at the drag and roll backs on the walker. Madison took it for a spin and it’s all fixed and ready for more use.

Madisons OT Kathy also dropped in to check on her fine motor development and see if we had any current concerns. Our focus the last 2 blocks has been PT since her OT stuff is going well which is why we havnt worked with Kathy in a while

Madisons Social Worker Stephanie also stopped by to check in. She is looking at getting us an appointment hopefully in the near future with a CP specialist at Grandview to address Madison’s sleeping issues. We are also being put into touch with a nutritionist to check in on Madison’s eating habits.

In the afternoon Madison spent some time with Pam and Medford playing while we finished up the basement. We have a few more little things to do and then we will unveil Madison’s new play room.

A big thank you to our awesome neighbours for entertaining Madison while we caught up on things around the house. This is our last week to get the house in order as starting next week Madison is downtown everyday for programming/therapy for the rest of the summer.

Day 172: Big Sister!

Madison is excited to announce that she is going to be a Big Sister! Her new role will start February 2016.

She loved seeing her new sibling on the ultrasound screen and now knows to point to Mama when asked “where’s the baby?”

We’re sure she will be putting her new partner in crime through her exercises right from day one.

Day 171: Helping her Walk

James has been busy in his workshop trying to build a ladder walker for Madi like the one she uses at March of Dimes.

Here is a pic of it from her conductive education class.

He has built 2 proto – types so far that have worked well for her, now he just has to figure out the right weight of the wood so she is able to push it without it tiping over.

Using this will help Madi strengthen her forwards stepping power and help her practice crouching down and standing up (using the bars) like she needs to do to be able to access her gait trainer independantly.

If all goes well with the finished product James would like to build these for families who also have a need. The one from conductive ed retails for around $3000 and James has been able to make ours for around $100 which is far more affordable for families.

Day 170: PJ Day!

Madison enjoyed a lazy day in her PJ’S around the house watching the Jays game with Dada, exploring with Stitch and cuddling with her new pillowcase. Our wonderful neighbour Pam sewed Madison a new pillowcase out of Sesame Street fabric with her favourite friend Elmo! It’s so soft she wouldn’t let it go. She dragged it with her all over the house and cuddled with it during the Jays game.

Day 169: Back in the Pool

Madison’s new interest around the house is trying to pull herself up on any chair possible and yell at the top of her lungs “Walk! ” Today it was one of the kitchen chairs. We weighted it down with books so it was heavy enough to not tip back, but light enough to push it forward. She marched around the house with the help of Mama.

Later in the day Madison was back at Variety Village for a swim lesson with Ryan. She had her usual tears to start but then did a great job and showed off her bobs and bubbles with Ryan at the end.

After swimming Madi, Mama and Nana met up with Papa and went for a nice dinner and then shopping at Party City for decorations for her upcoming 2nd Birthday!

Day 167: London Day 1

Madison and Nate planned a family getaway for their Nana ‘ s 60 Birthday present. They took her to London to stay in a hotel, go swimming and to go to Storybook Gardens.

Today was day 1 of the trip. After checking into the hotel  and chasing each other in the halls, Madison and Nate took Nana and Papa out for lunch. After lunch they went back to the hotel to go for a swim. The pool was a bit cold so the swimming didn’t last very long, but they still had a great time splashing in the water together.  After swimming Madison had a super warm bath as the pool made her very stiff. After lying in the tub for a few minutes,  and with the power of massage she was much better. After quiet time, Madison and Nate took everyone out for a nice dinner. It was a late bedtime. Madison decided to be a monkey and tried to stay up even later by bouncing around in her crib and screaming at the top of her lungs to try and play peek a boo. Madison did not make any friends tonight with our hotel room neighbour’s.  It was a great day and her and Nate are looking forward to going to Storybook Gardens with everyone tomorrow.

Looking for Nate
